Truchas General Mercantile Screening, Saturday October 14th.

On Saturday October 14th at Rael's Truchas General Mercantile, The Wisdom Archive presents three World Premiere Documentaries about masters of Northern New Mexico art and music by Emmy award winning directors Scott Andrews and Christopher Beaver.

"Monica Sosaya: Maestra de Tradición"

 A loving portrait of the "Grand Dame" of Spanish Market.Winner of the Masters Award for Lifetime Achievement and recently proclaimed as a "Santa Fe Living Treasure", Monica has been painting her distinctive Santos and producing masterpieces of Colcha design for over sixty five years!

Captures a rare and exclusive look behind the scenes with renowned artist and Santero Nicholas Herrera of El Rito as he tends his land and paints in his studio.  Recent winner of the New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, Herrera's life and work is an ongoing remembrance of the land, water, and artistic traditions of Northern New Mexico.

"Cipriano Vigil: Musico de la Gente" 

The life story of the "New Mexico State Treasure" and acknowledged master of Northern New Mexico music,  El Rito's very own Cipriano Vigil.  From his introduction to music at age eight in the dancehalls of Peñasco, through a lifetime of collecting music of the "Viejitos" and performing with his family and friends at the Smithsonian and venues throughout the SouthWest, Cipriano spins fantastic stories and humorous songs, creates a legacy of collected traditional works, and serves as an authentic voice for his people.
